2016-17 Approximately 2,231 dogs were "DESTROYED" by local authorities across the U.K.
Across the U.K. 66,277 stray dogs were taken in by local authorities. 60% of these stray dogs were reunited with their owners, either by being reclaimed during the statutory local authority kenneling period (39%) or returned directly to owner without ever entering a kennel (20%). Just under a quarter (22%) of the stray dogs were passed onto welfare organisations or dog kennels after the statutory period.
Estimated proportion of dogs put to sleep was 3%, we can estimate that roughly 2,231 dogs were put to sleep across the U.K. from 2016 - 2017. The local authorities have responded with reasons for only four fifths of reported destruction's (80%). It was reported that 380 dogs were put to sleep due to ill health, 650 due to behavioural problems or aggression, 206 under the Dangerous Dogs Act and 226 due to being unclaimed/having no rescue available.
226 Stray dogs DESTROYED by local authorities simply for a lack of space, nothing more!
This is where you come in, with your donations we can fund the worlds first 100% Eco-Friendly dog shelter! We will build a shelter from reclaimed/recycled and natural materials.
